Róbert Farkas, a distinguished Hungarian-German conductor, has been the Chief Conductor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in Budapest since September 2021 and serves as Principal Guest Conductor of the "Dinu Lipatti" Philharmonic in Satu Mare, Romania. Farkas has made a significant impact in Germany, conducting leading orchestras such as the Berliner Konzerthausorchester, the Rheinische Philharmonie, the Heidelberger Philharmoniker, and the Wuppertaler Sinfonieorchester. His international career includes engagements with the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic, the Zagreb Philharmonic, and the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Sofia.
A versatile conductor, Farkas is equally adept at interpreting both classical and contemporary repertoire. He has led performances of well-known operas such as Cosi fan tutte, La Traviata, and Die Entführung aus dem Serail. His work also spans modern and contemporary compositions, including Shostakovich's Moskau Tscherjomuschki, Hindemith's Lehrstück, Rihm's Dionysos, Peter Maxwell Davies' The Turn of the Tide, Philip Glass's Echnaton, and Johannes Harneit's Abends am Fluss and Hochwasser.
